Lucerne, Switzerland - October 8 & 9

The famous Chapel Bridge & Water Tower.  It is 670' long and crosses the Reuss River.  It is the oldest wooden bridge in Europe.  It was built in 1333.

It is filled with painting that depict events from Lucerne's history.

In 1993 there was a fire that destroyed the majority of the paintings.

This is the Lion Monument.  It is dedicated to the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution.  It was really amazing to see and more beautiful then the pictures show.

This is the Mill Bridge.  The wooden paddles in the bottom of the picture are raised & lowered to control the water level.

View from the top of the old fortress wall.
The old fortress wall towers.

These are Scottish Highland Cattle.
On a cruise on Lake Lucerne.

These birds were flying along side the boat.  People were throwing corn nuts and the birds were catching them in the air.

We stopped in two little towns - Vitznau & Weggis (pronounced Veggie).  Everything was closed when we were there because most shop owners take 2 1/2 hour lunches.

Views as the boat was arriving back in Lucerne.

There were a ton of swans in the Reuss River.

They were very friendly and even ate bread out of my hand.
